About

Hi, I’m Hannah Macready.

I’m a freelance writer, journalist, and content marketer with a deep passion for creative content. I’m known for my tactical writing in the tech, social media, B2B, and digital marketing space. My work has appeared in publications such as Fast Company and the Globe and Mail, and I’ve worked with globally-recognized brands like Amazon, Hootsuite, Lyft, Audi, and more.

Outside of copywriting, I enjoy spending time with my two dogs, Soup and Salad, reading in my local park, and getting out in nature. I also have close ties with the Canadian literary community and host, attend, and speak at local readings and events.

Why work with me?

I’m the freelancer you never have to follow up with. I hand things in before or on the due date—and I’ve never missed a deadline.

If you send me a brief, you can trust me to set up interviews, ask questions, and deliver a draft in record time.

If you mentioned you have a project you want done next year, you best believe I’ll be in your inbox 365 days later following up. That’s just who I am.

What I’m good at:

My strengths lie in distilling complex ideas into easily digestible content. I can grasp pretty much any topic, from lithium refining to insurance underwriting, social media trends, IoT devices, military engineering, and more. (Yes, those are all real examples of clients I’ve worked with).

In terms of hard skills, I excel at the following:

  • Copywriting

  • Content Strategy

  • SEO Writing

  • Interviewing

  • Script Writing

  • Brand Storytelling

Common Q&A

  • I specialize in B2B, digital marketing, social media, SaaS, and technology content for enterprise companies.

I am most comfortable working directly with internal marketing teams, agencies, and news publications.

  • I tend to stray away from lifestyle brands, wellness brands, and content that deals with faith. This is simply because I’ve found I’m not good at writing that content, and there are other copywriters out there who excel at it.

My rates are also generally out of reach for businesses who are just starting out. That said, my agency, Brandcamp Digital, services many of the verticals I don’t. See our website here.

  • I do write journalism pieces. I keep a firm line between my journalistic endeavors and my solicited content and follow a strict code of ethics.

  • I’m known for my long-form B2B content writing. This includes blogs, articles, press releases, web copy, and lead magnets.

  • My process varies from project to project, but usually begins with researching the brand and target market, conducting SEO research, creating a brief, then writing and editing.

Long-form articles can generally be delivered within seven days of brief receipt. Other projects require a custom timeline.

I take clients on a retainer basis. The exception is website projects, which are done on a by-project basis.

Get to know me better

  • I’m originally from Dallas, Texas, though I’ve lived all over the world: New Orleans, Colorado, Vancouver, Wales, Edinburgh, and Montreal. Yes, I speak French (but I don’t write it).

Growing up, I was your classic gifted kid. I was in chess club and math league. I read Romeo & Juliet in grade one. I was even in a program called TAG (Talented & Gifted) for most of elementary school. I’d love to say that determination carried through to high school, but it didn’t. In grade 12, I was awarded the esteemed honour of “most days skipped” in my school’s history.

Thankfully, I managed to pull it all together by the time I hit college/university. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing from The University of Wales with 1st class honours.

After university, I moved back to Canada to figure out how I was going to make a living with an arts degree. Har, har. I started working for a local literary magazine, took on various marketing assistant roles, then eventually found myself copywriting for a well-known advertising agency. While that role cut my teeth in the world of commercial marketing, I knew I wanted to go out on my own.

After a few years in the corporate world, I took the freelance plunge. To be honest, it went better than I expected. My first project was with Amazon. My second was with Lyft. I thought, wow, I can really do this. So, I kept going.

Today, my freelance career has given me the opportunity to write for a massive range of clients, and I’ve had my creative work published all over the world.

So, who’s the human behind the writing? On a personal level, I’m pretty laid back. I take my work seriously, but I also take my out-of-work time seriously. I love starting my day with a cappuccino and sitting in the sunshine as much as possible. I read a lot, write a lot, and absolutely adore exchanging philosophical ideas in dark bars, late into the night.

I’m always happy to meet new people, whether you’re an aspiring writer or a professional just looking for a new friend. If you read this and thought, I totally get you—I implore you to reach out via my contact form. I’m always chuffed to meet and work with likeminded folks.

If you’re a client and you’re reading this, thanks for making it this far. Fodder for our next meeting, maybe? See you soon.
